2 to 4 Years
Children aged 2 to 4 years are divided into two main groups:
Pre-School
Children who will be starting school the following academic year
- Our Pre-school children work in small groups with 2 qualified and experienced nursery nurses in their own classrooms. The children enjoy both an indoor and outdoor classroom – each equipped with resources chosen specifically for this age range. The curriculum all children at nursery follow is the Early Years Foundation Stage (See ‘Indoor/Outdoor’ page for further details). As well as all the things one would expect children to be enjoying at nursery: painting, drawing, playdough, singing and dancing, our pre-school children are introduced to:
Stage 1 Phonics: to introduce the skills required for reading and writing
Numeracy: the ability to understand and work with numbers
I.T: using simple technologies
Being Independent: encompassing all the skills to support your child’s transition from nursery to ‘Big’ school. Getting dressed, putting shoes on the right feet, using zips and buttons, hygiene, recognising their written name, building confidence, listening skills, classroom etiquette, etc.
Playroom
Children aged 2 to 3 years
Children aged 2 and 3 years are divided into small ‘Key Worker’ groups. The key workers observe and track the children’s development (Learning Journey) and plan appropriate activities to suit the interests and development needs of their key children. As with all the children in nursery, all developmental progress is recorded on our ‘iconnect Parent Zone’ online system which allows parents to login in to their child’s online learning journey to see what they’ve been doing, check their progress and add their own observations, pictures, etc.
As well as our enormous garden, our 2s and 3s have most of the ground floor of the nursery to themselves. The Playroom is equipped with a bountiful supply of play and learning resources, designed to entertain and educate.
